I have quite a bit of info on Moab, but not much else. Janet will be hooking me up with some info on cool places in Salt Lake City soon. I'll have to ask her this week.
I need more info on Utah's conservative alcohol laws. I'm not a big drinker, so I don't know much. I think that if you're driving here, you're best off bringing it with you. You can't order wine without something to eat in restaurants. Beer can be ordered without food. (but not in supermarkets, I think.)
Here's a very thorough list of books for adventuring in, and learning about Utah.
Buy Desert Solitaire
Beautiful writing about the desert and all of it's wonders. If you've been to southern Utah, read this book, if you haven't, and read it, you'll be on your way. |
Buy Utah Atlas and Gazeteer
These whole-state map collections are great for finding new places, getting unlost in your car and tons of other uses. This one is 1:250,000 scale, so it's not what you're looking for for backpacking or anything that requires detail. |
Buy Exploring Canyonlands and Arches National Parks (FalconGuide)
If you want to more than just drive through the parks, get this book. This book has hikes for a variety of abilities. |
